The Department of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University manages the scientific activity surrounding translations. This includes:

-Maintaining approved standards for translation methodology and quality. These standards must be reviewed and followed by all individuals (or groups) interested in translating a HealthMeasures instrument.

-Issuing permission to those who commit to following the approved translation methodology/quality standards and to submitting the completed translation for quality review.

-Conducting a quality review of the translation in each language and verifying harmonization across languages. A fee is charged for this review.

Please contact Helena Correia (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to discuss your translation project. Indicate which instrument(s) you wish to translate and into which language(s). A letter of permission to translate can be issued following verification that the instrument of interest has not been translated into the language(s) you specify and that no one else is currently translating it. You will receive a cost estimate for the quality review along with the letter. The executed agreement (i.e.,after signatures) is valid for six months (for PROMIS and Neuro-QoL translations) or for one year (for NIH Toolbox translations). It can be renewed.
