That's great, and thanks for all the information.
Wish me luck!

That's what I thought and will try the custom short-form to replace the CAT form. I have only tested administering the forms because I immediately noticed the standard CAT pain interference form wouldn't work for our wheelchair bound patients so don't have an overall score yet. We intended to administer pain interference, physical function (upper extremity mobility for wheelchair patients) and life satisfaction (closest I could get to quality of life).
I'm hoping there is information on customizing short forms on the HealthMeasures site but if you know of any references I'd appreciate it.

Hi, this approach will not work with the current CAT setting as it will not exclude certain type of items at this moment. The best option is to create a custom short-form to replace a CAT testing. The output scores will be "pain interference" scores. What is your overall score? If you are administering three separate item banks (either short-forms or CATs), you should have three scores (pain interference, physical function and other).

I forgot to mention we are using the CAT version of all measures. How does this work with a customized short form, or is a CAT version even necessary if I'm creating an already shortened form? And does this affect overall scoring for the 3 measures we're using? Sorry for the multiple questions - I'm still new at this.

For those patients who are wheelchair bound, we recommend you create a customized shot-form which does not have ambulation items. Custom short forms can still be scored at no cost through the HealthMeasures Scoring Service (www.assessmentcenter.net/ac_scoringservice).
